Officials Identify Man Missing in Beaver Lake

Officials have released the name of the man who fell into Beaver Lake and is still missing.

The man was identified as Aaron James Loewer, 30, of Prairie Grove.

Twenty divers searched Beaver Lake Thursday to find the man who fell into the lake Tuesday.

Lt. Rick Jensen with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office said with the possibility of downpours this weekend, they are planning to continue the search until weather prevents them from continuing.

“We are hoping they will find him before the weather moves in on Saturday,” Jensen said.

The search was expanded to a half-square mile from Wednesday’s search effort. The search began on Tuesday after Loewer was reported to have went into the water. Officials were told that Loewer fell into the water after having a medical issue.

The search on the west side of the lake has involved the use of sonar and divers. Crews have now switched to the east side of the lake.

Divers are searching as deep as 50 feet down.

Sonar has not yet picked up images of a body shape.

Jensen said Beaver Lake has lots of brush under the water, and that a body could get caught up in that brush.

The Red Cross helped the effort by feeding search crews.

Loewer’s family released the following statment:

Aaron was an avid outdoorsman and a man of God. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and being a cowboy. He has been a bull rider and ridden horses deep into the mountains to hunt. Aaron was a loyal friend and known for his generosity, always willing to give the shirt off his back to anyone in need. His last day was spent doing one of his favorite things – fishing.

We are extremely grateful for all the personnel and divers who have come to help search.
