(via KARK) Former Cabot Panther and current University of Arkansas student athlete Lexi Weeks is heading to the Olympics in pole vault.
Lexi is always jumping to new heights. In high school she set a national pole vault record. She the current NCAA Indoor Champion, and now she is one of only three women heading to Rio to represent the USA in pole vault.
“I’ve always dreamed of making the Olympic team, but I honestly didn’t think it was going to happen this year,” she says.
It is a career achievement Lexi initially thought would be a solo endeavor, but thanks to the generosity of Cabot, folks started giving, and now her mom, dad, and twin sister will join her in Brazil.
“It’s overwhelming how kind and generous people are. It’s humbling how the community has rallied around us,” says mom Amy Weeks.
“(To) have my parents there and Tori there is going to be crazy. It’s going to be awesome. This whole thing is just so surreal to me, and I just can’t put into words how thankful and blessed I am to have this opportunity,” Lexi continues. “I was thankful to even make it to the trials, and I’m going to cry again, but I’m just so thankful, like how many people have the opportunity to make it to the Olympics?!.”
Lexi is back in Fayetteville training for the Summer Games, she plans to be in Rio de Janiero for the opening ceremony on August 5.
