Outdoor Skating Rink to Open

News

The Ice Rink at Lawrence Plaza is opening Saturday, November 19.

Skating at the Bentonville rink costs $3 per session. Skate rental is $2. On Saturdays the first session starts at 12:00 p.m. and the last session ends at 9:30 p.m. The rink will be open seven days a week. Starting the week after Thanksgiving, there are certain days when people can rent the entire rink. This season there will be skating lessons offered, several skate alongs and movies at the rink. You can find more information about those things and the location and hours here.

Warm temperatures across the country are causing outdoor skating rinks, just like the one in Bentonville, to get creative. At the Southwest Rink in Denver, crews have been working on creating a think layer of ice for days. Typically to make a rink, three of four consecutive days and nights of 36 degree or below temperatures are required. Since that hasn’t happened, crews are using a cooling system that runs off of the same liquid used in refrigerators. They are working to keep the temperatures down until they spray enough water to make four inches of solid ice.
