NORTHWEST ARKANSAS, Ark. (KNWA) — Ozark Regional Transit is offering free rides all week as part of a national campaign Dump the Pump.
The campaign is designed to raise awareness of the positive aspects of using public transportation, especially the economic benefits.
According to Ozark Regional Transit, public transportation reduces United States dependence on foreign oil by 4.2 billion gallons of gasoline a year. It also saves 37 million metric tons of carbon emissions annually while reducing congestion on roads.
One frequent ORT rider says more people should take advantage of this service.
“They’re paying the gas, they’re paying the insurance, they’re driving. It’s air conditioned or heated whatever the season, don’t have to worry about the parking — again, just ride the bus and enjoy the view. Let someone else drive,” Brenda kidd said.
Dump the Pump Day is on Thursday June 21. For bus route information, visit https://www.ozark.org/.
