Patrol Officer Hiring Begins in Fort Smith

The Fort Smith Police Department has opened their application process to new recruits in hopes of filling approximately 20 open positions.

According to a press release from Fort Smith Public Information Officer Aric Mitchell, there will be a fully paid, 13-week Academy held locally at the Fort Smith Police Training Center. No previous law enforcement experience is necessary.

To be considered, applicants must meet the following criteria:

– Be 21 years of age
– Hold a valid driver’s license
– Attain a high school diploma or GED
– Have no felony convictions 
– Be a US Citizen

Starting pay for Patrol Officers of the Fort Smith Police Department will be $37,440 annually, with a host of benefits and advancement opportunities available, according to the release.
