FORT SMITH, Ark. (KNWA) — A pedestrian was killed when struck by a vehicle in Fort Smith early Tuesday morning.

Pathro Black, 22, died from injuries at a Fort Smith hospital, according to a news release issued by Cpl. Anthony Rice of the Fort Smith Police Department.

Police were called to the 3400 block of Midland Boulevard at approximately 12:50 a.m., according to the news release.

Police were told that Black was walking on Midland Boulevard when he was struck by a vehicle traveling north on Midland, the release states.

An accident reports states that Black attempted to cross the roadway outside a crosswalk.

“The driver of the vehicle involved immediately stopped and called 911 requesting emergency services,” Rice said.

The driver was administered a breath test as well as a test from a drug recognition expert at the Fort Smith Police Department to “ensure he was not impaired in any way.” The driver was then interviewed and released, according to Rice.

“The investigation into this accident, once completed, will be turned over to the Sebastian County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office to determine if any further charges will be filed,” Rice said.
