HIGHFILL, Ark. (KFTA) — A plane circled back to XNA after takeoff Monday afternoon, but an emergency was not declared.

Gilbert Neil with XNA said he did not know the reason for the landing and could not confirm that it was because of a mechanical issue.

Two firetrucks traveled to airport as a safety precaution.

A passenger named J.D. Mahaffey contacted KNWA and said he was a passenger on the flight, which he said was “American Airlines Flight 5193 operated by PSA Airlines dba American Eagle.”

“Upon landing back at XNA, there were two fire rescue trucks waiting for us,” Mahaffey said. “We taxied very slow to the gate. The pilot turned off the seatbelt sign and notified us that there was a mechanic issue that caused us to land and that maintenance would come to fix it.”
