Police say a man and woman were both intoxicated when they hit a car with three kids in the back seat and left the scene.
Court documents show John West was driving Mariah Robbins and three kids near Wilson park when he hit a car and left the scene. The witness called authorities and told them the car drove off westbound on prospect and gave them the license plate number.
Investigators say they found John West and Mariah Robbins at a house on Gregg St. They say there were three kids in the car, and that two of them were under 6-years-old and none had car seats.
Court documents show the two young kids belonged to Mariah Robbins and the older child was a friends she was watching.
Documents show West eventually admitted to officers he had six shots a few hours prior.
John West was arrested for DWI, endangering the welfare of a minor, violation of implied consent, leaving the scene of a property damage accident, no liability insurance, violation of child restraint law, and careless driving. He was booked into the Washington County Jail.
Officers say they arrested Mariah Robbins away from the children’s line of sight when she started to pull away, yell, curse, and scream. And, that when she was put in the patrol vehicle she started to kick the glass window very hard several times all while screaming and yelling. She had to be placed in leg restraints to keep herself and police property safe.
She is being held in the Washington County jail on charges of violation of child restraint law, public intoxication, and disorderly conduct.
DHS was called to respond for the children.
