A police officer responded to a drunk driver call and ended up getting dragged by the suspect’s truck, according to the Tontitown Police Department.

It happened Sunday around 1:30 a.m., December 29, at the 1000 block of E. Henri De Tonti.

An officer was dispatched to a call about a man urinating in a parking lot — while outside of his truck.

When the police officer arrived, he asked the driver to get out of the truck, but the man refused and began to drive away, according to the report.

As the man tried to leave, the officer’s equipment got caught on the driver’s side of the door, dragging the officer about 70 feet before he was thrown free onto the ground, according to the release.

The truck driver continued, ran the officer over with his rear driver’s side tire and headed east on US Highway 412.

The officer was able to give a description of the vehicle and license plate, driver, and direction of travel  to Washington County dispatch.  A ‘Be on the Lookout’ (BOLO) was given to surrounding agencies with details of the description.

The officer was taken to Washington Regional Hospital, treated for non-life threatening injuries and was later released.

Benton County Sheriff’s Department found the truck at a home on Robbins Road north of Elm Springs in Springdale.  The suspect was inside the truck’s ‘bumper pull trailer’ and arrested without incident, according to the release.

He was identified as Eddie Marchant, 54, and was taken to the Washington County jail.

Marchant is booked on 1st Degree Battery, Aggravated Assault, Leaving the Scene of an Accident and Fleeing.  He’s held on no bond and his first court date is January 2.

On October 1, 2018, Marchant was booked for public intoxication in Eureka Springs, according to the Carroll County Detention Center.
