Pop-up food banks were set up in five different locations around the Washington D.C. area Saturday to serve federal workers affected by the shutdown.
The Capitol area food bank held five pop-up markets, distributing free produce and non-perishable items outside five “giant” locations.
People with valid government or federal contractor ID’s were able to receive food
“Given the magnitude of the number of federal workers in this region and how long the shutdown has gone on for, we decided that we needed to do something different and special, said
President & CEO, Capital Area Food Bank Radha Muthiah.
Muthiah said these furloughed employees have a great need for supplementary food since the government has been shut down for 23 days.
