President Donald Trump gave his second State of the Union address on Capitol Hill.
The president on Tuesday night, February 6, talked about bipartisan topics such as infrastructure projects, cutting the cost of prescription drugs, and ending HIV in the United States.
He also made mention of his foreign policy agenda.
“We must be united at home to defeat our adversaries abroad,” said President Trump, “…an amazing quality of life for all of our citizens is within our reach.”
Despite the calls for unity, the clock is ticking on an important issue.
The president and Congress have until February 15 to work together to keep the government funded and avoid another shutdown.
Arkansas Congressman Steve Womack released a statement in response to the president’s State of the Union address.
“President Trump delivered a powerful and unifying message. He outlined an inspiring vision of American greatness, where the key to forging new solutions…and unlocking the extraordinary promise of our nation’s future is rooted in a united people working together to face our challenges,” said Womack.
Senator John Boozman shared his thoughts on the president’s State of the Union address via Twitter, where he challenged Congress and the nation come together to solve our problems.
“I thought the president did a great job tonight. He challenged Congress and the country to rise to the occasion to solve our problems –– together. We can and must do just that.”
“Great to hear
@POTUS highlight efforts to empower women economically. We started that process last Congress when my bill, the #WEEEAct, was passed with broad support. Looking forward to taking more action to enable women to contribute even more within the global economy.”
U.S. Rep. Bruce Westerman (R-Ark.) released the following statement in response to President Donald Trump’s State of the Union Address to a joint session of Congress:
“President Trump’s address reminded us of the challenges America has overcome in the past, and the new solutions and extraordinary promise that await us in the future. Under the Trump administration our nation has seen a thriving economy, thousands of jobs created, strong efforts for immigration reform and effective mechanisms to lower drug costs. Tonight, the president set a clear agenda for the upcoming year. I look forward to choosing greatness in 2019, and am hopeful that Congress can pursue bipartisan efforts to achieve these goals.”
