BENTONVILLE, Ark. — A racial slur appeared on Walmart’s website Monday as part of a product description.
The product in question, a netting weave cap, was listed on the site by a third party vendor who wrote the description.
Social media may have been responsible for bringing the slur to the attention of the retailer, which removed the product and associated description from the website after the uproar began.
The ‘add to cart’ button was replaced by a message reading that the item was ‘no longer available.’
Walmart released a statement after the product was removed:
“We are very sorry and appalled that this third party seller listed their item with this description on our online marketplace. It is a clear violation of our policy… and has been removed… and we are investigating the seller to determine how this could have happened.”
