UPDATE:

CERRO GORDO COUNTY, Iowa (KNWA) — The remains of a long-missing Pea Ridge police officer were found in Iowa in May, but not positively identified until recently.

The remains were collected by authorities on May 20 after the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office was notified that they were found in the 22000 block of 275th Street in rural Mason City, according to an Iowa Department of Public Safety news release.

The collected remains were sent to the Iowa State Medical Examiner’s Office in Ankeny, Iowa. An autopsy was performed on May 23.

“Through the course of the investigation, the State Medical Examiner’s Office was able to positively identify the skeletal remains as Cerilla Doyle of Bentonville, Ark.,” the news release states.

On Oct. 27, 2008, the Bentonville Police Department began a missing person investigation involving Doyle. She was 51 years old at the time of her disappearance.

“The investigation conducted by the Bentonville Police Department determined that Doyle had left the area voluntarily and no contact had been made with her since she went missing,” the news release states. “Currently there is no indication of foul play, however, the investigation is continuing into the circumstances surrounding her travels between Arkansas and Iowa as well as the circumstances surrounding her death.”

The Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation request ask that anyone who has information regarding Doyle and her disappearance contact the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office at (641) 421-3000.

ORIGINAL STORY:

Bentonville police announced Tuesday morning that the body of a Pea Ridge police officer who went missing almost 10 years ago was found in Iowa.

According to Gene Page with the Bentonville Police Department, Cerilla Doyle went missing on October 27, 2008.

The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigations found Doyle’s remains in Mason City, Iowa in an outside area.  Officials say Doyle would have been 61 years old.

Doyle’s family was notified Monday night.

In April 2018, police told KNWA they believed Doyle’s disappearance is not linked to 15-year-old April Andrews.

Doyle was the officer who responded to the call about Andrews being missing. Officials say a few years later Doyle went missing.

Iowa authorities say they will continue the investigation and determine the cause of death.
