Voting is underway for area school board members and school millage proposals.
Decatur, Gentry, Gravette, Rogers, Siloam Springs and Pea Ridge are all on the ticket.
Benton County Clerk Betsy Harrel stressed the importance of voting during school elections.
Harrel said 80 percent of voters’ tax dollars are going to school districts, yet the voter turn out is typically very low.
“I think people misunderstand the importance of school elections,” Harrel said. “Sometimes they feel that if they don’t have kids in school they don’t need to be interested in whats going on in the school. But the misconception there is that 80 percent of tax dollars are going to these school districts. So right now there’s less than 1 percent of the voters deciding how 80 percent of the tax dollars are being spent.”
The Bentonville School District will hold their election in November.
Polls will be open until 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
