Getting ready to ring in a New Year can be as simple as you make it, if you’re on a budget, or even if you aren’t. Here are some ideas:
Stay home: Have a binge television marathon of your favorite movies. Invite friends over to watch shows with you.
Have a house party: Be fancy or casual. Make it a potluck, or have guests bring a side dish while you provide the main one. Cheaper to eat at home the going out to a restaurant.
Make it a theme party: Dress up in a fancy outfit, do a pajama party or do a cultural theme of a country of your choice.
Decide ahead on your drinks: Pitchers of Sangria, a punch bowl mock-tail or buy alcoholic beverages by the case — beer, wine, wine coolers — because it’s cheaper that way.
Use your good china: Put the paper plates aside, you save money that way. Re-purpose items around the house to use for decor, or spray paint the items silver or gold to make it more festive.
Play rounds of various games: Partake in video games, trivia, charades, set up card tables to stay entertained until the clock rolls to midnight.
Reuse decorations: Use some from the holidays, do a picture montage, set up a special occasion photo slide show to be displayed on one of your televisions.
Props: Get some hats from the dollar store, or hats you may have around your home may be decorated.
Lastly, if you’re not into hosting a party, go to someone’s house who is!
If you do plan to go out, make sure to have a driver if you’re going to drink alcoholic beverages.
Fayetteville police provided the following suggestion, “DO NOT let your friends drive intoxicated. Take their keys or find them a way home, even if they hate you for it.”
