A Rogers teacher was surprised with a $30,000 grant to teach outdoor conservation and recreation education.
It was a time of celebration for educator Jeff Belik as he received the grant from the Rogers Public Education Foundation.
This is the fourth grant funded by local outdoors enthusiast George Merwin. The grant will fund a large amount of equipment such as climbing pads, harnesses, kayaks and sleeping bags.
Rogers High School Principal Lewis Villines said through this project the school hopes to become more innovative and encourage students to step out of their comfort zones.
“It’s vital. He is actually going to be putting in a climbing wall for his students, so we are real excited for this opportunity to provide extra opportunities for our students,” Villines said.
The Rogers Public Education Foundation was formed in 1996. The foundation gave out more than $220,000 in grants and awards in 2018.
