Salvation Army Hosts Thanksgiving, Hopes to Spread Spirit of Giving

The Salvation Army hosted its annual Thanksgiving dinner Thursday, serving more than 400 people across Northwest Arkansas.

Twyla Burt now serves as the women’s auxiliary president for the Salvation Army. But when she moved here eight years ago, she was looking for a charity to get involved with.

She says after her first Thanksgiving she took over the kitchen and has been making memories giving back ever since. Burt tells us her favorite part is seeing she can make a difference.

“This morning a little boy said I’ve never had Thanksgiving Dinner. He was here for breakfast, and I said, well you’re getting ready to have a wonderful Thanksgiving this year,” Burt said.

“To work with the people, that really touches my heart. I’m doing something for them, but it’s actually doing more for me.”

Burt says she hopes positive experiences volunteering during the holiday encourages more people to come out and help throughout the rest of the year.
