BENTONVILLE, Ark. (KNWA) — A celebration was held Thursday to honor Walmart founder Sam Walton on what would have been his 100th birthday.
The event was part of several planned events to honor the big year.
Several speakers discussed Walton’s impact on the area, including Bentonville Mayor Bob McCaslin.
He said this area would look nothing like what it does, if it weren’t for Walton’s business.
“Yes, I think Bentonville would more closely resemble most of the small towns, which are great places to live,” McCaslin said. “I grew up in one, but it would be a small town in Arkansas without all of the fanfare and vitality and destination notoriety that we see here today.”
You can take part in the centennial celebration on April 6 at the Bentonville First Friday event at the Bentonville Square.
The Walmart Museum, the location of Sam Walton’s first store, is located in Bentonville Square.
