Saving Money on Credit Cards

News

If you’re looking for new products at Black Friday prices, your credit card may be able to help.

Some cards offer price protection. That means if you pay full price for something, but see it on sale within a couple of months the card reimburses you the difference.

Citi has a price rewind program. Cardholders register things they buy, then for the next two months, the company tracks the prices. If the price is cheaper, you can request a refund. There is a $500 limit per item and a $2,500 limit per year.

Chase has the same limits. To get money back, customers submit a claim with an original receipt, credit card statement and an ad showing the item’s lower price. Discover and Mastercard also have similar programs that will give you money back, even on Black Friday deals.

There can be restrictions, like if a deal is promoted as a limited quantity or a doorbuster. It’s best to read the fine print before submitting a claim.
