Beyond the increased challenges with day to day living that parents experience, lack of sleep can be incredibly dangerous and can take a severe toll.

Co-owner of Doulas of Northwest Arkansas and Fort Smith Doulas, Bethany Reeves, knows the challenges of this lack of sleep firsthand. Through working on solutions to the sleep issues she had with her son and learning about newborn sleep through the process of becoming a certified childbirth educator and postpartum doula, she has developed a class that teaches parents some very important basics of how to reclaim their night’s rest.

These classes take place over a few hours on two days in the home of each family struggling with sleep issues. A trained postpartum doula meets with the family and priority number one is a nap for exhausted parents. After parents get a chance to partake in some precious sleep, the postpartum doula and baby sleep expert will discuss different challenges the family is facing in the sleep department. Before leaving on the first day, the doula helps formulate a tailor-made plan for the parents to use. The doula checks in on day two to help explore any issues that may have arisen during the night, demonstrates some sleep safety information and helps families get settled in for their second night.
