It’s National School Choice Week, and schools across the country are celebrating the opportunity for parents to have education options for their children.
Families in Arkansas can choose from traditional public schools, public charter schools, public magnet schools, private schools and homeschooling.
“For public schools, obviously its always been a matter of where you lived — that’s where you go to school,” said Rick Schaeffer, director of communications for Springdale Public Schools. “When they introduced school choice in the State of Arkansas that means that now students do not have to go to the district where they lived, probably most do but you do have the choice of going somewhere else.”
There is a may first deadline for students to register for an out of district transfer.
