“Selfie Room” at Gym Sparks Backlash

Your social media feeds might be full of gym selfies. One gym decided to take the trend a step further with a room dedicated to workout selfies. They conducted a survey of 1,500 adults to learn more about post-workout photos. They learned that 43% of the respondents said they had taken photos or videos of themselves at the gym. The gym planned a “selfie room” where members were told the room would be equipped with good lighting, hair products, and fitness accessories. But the gym’s announcement brought so much backlash on social media it decided to put the launch on hold.

One Twitter said:

“Before Social Media, the world lived on, blissfully, without Gym selfies! This seems like a waste of money to allow room for gym selfies.”  – @JESS_MASON87

Not everyone was against the idea, though. Some said if you are proud of your workout results and want to post to encourage yourself and others, have at it.

We’re taking a look at what’s in theaters this weekend. First up, the comedy “Blockers” is about parents of three teenage girls trying to stop their crazy prom antics.  It stars Leslie Mann and John Cena.
Next, “Chappaquiddick”, actor Jason Clarke portrays Senator Ted Kennedy in a dramatization around the death of Mary Jo Kopechne in an accident on the small, New England island in 1969. Real life couple Emily Blunt and John Krasinski star in the thriller “A Quiet Place” about a family hiding from creatures who hunt by sound. Those films will go up against last weekend’s number one movie “Ready Player One”.
