BENTONVILLE, Ark. (KFTA) — Two senior living communities in Rogers and Bentonville are helping elders with memory loss reconnect with the world and with each other through modern technology.

In the age of cutting edge technology at our fingertips, age is proving to be just a number when it comes to using it.

At Village on the Park in Bentonville and Rogers, a touchscreen system called it’s Never 2 Late, or iN2L, is allowing older adults in assisted living and memory care suites to connect to the world outside of their community.

Harryette Graham uses the new technology.

“Not only is it good in the way that you feel, making you feel good doing something, that you can forget what’s going on in the world and play a game,” Graham said. “It’s a neat thing for us to get into and try different ways of using it.”

You start off by creating a personal profile, much like Facebook, and can play interactive games, puzzles, health and wellness tools, spiritual experiences, music, films — even skyping your family.

“They can connect with their families, they can connect with physical therapists, they can connect with their OT therapists, anything that they may need to do,” Emily haley, Director of Life Enrichment at Village on the Park Bentonville said. “You can actually enchance their situation, making them not depressed, giving them things to do. Wheeling it into their rooms, calling their friends, it gives them a lot more to do and takes them out of that depressive state. They feel like they are out there, involved in the community.”

The portable device is making an impact on daily life for folks here like Graham who says she learns something new everyday.

“I think I like the trivia or the matching, anything like that. The thing we have the most fun with is trying to guess the answers to things,” Graham said.
