Absolute chaos, that’s how people who live at Wedington Place Senior living explained their current situation. We went over to the complex to get some answers but all we got from management was a closed office door.
Yvonne Ethridge lives at Wedington Place Senior Apartments. She said, “A lot of people are just freaking out, you know? And I think we ought to have some kind of notice.”
Residents told our team they’ve heard the complex is being sold. “There’s no sense in all these old people being so upset, you know and wondering, am I going to have a home 30 days from now? ” Ethridge said.
Residents received a note on their doors stating in part that their manager will no longer be available. Family members of those who live here are outraged. Denise Garners mother-in-law lives at the apartments, she tells us her in-law requires Section 8 housing. “So this is just crazy. These are people who are supposed to be taken care of in these apartments at least helped a little bit you know,” said Garner.
Now Garner is worried about where she will live if the complex is sold. “The fact that there’s not a whole lot of places right now that do have availability, where do they go? And she lives on social security so that’s all she has,”said Garner.
We went over to the complex to find out some answers. As soon as we got there someone closed the blinds to the managers office and the lights were turned off.
We could clearly see someone in the office but they would not open the door to talk to us.
We called the housing authority who oversees the complex to find out what exactly is going on. We asked the executive director who owns the complex.
“So you all don’t currently own it and we don’t know who it’s going to be sold to is that correct?”
Neal Gibson is the NWRHA Executive Director He responded, “No ma’am I don’t have any idea.”
When we called the assessors office they told us they have no paperwork on file that the complex is going to be sold.
“As of right now you do not have anything from Wedington Place Senior Apartments?
Washington Co. Deputy Assessor, David McConnell responded, “That is correct nothing has come down at all.”
If you go to the Northwest Regional Housing Authority website it says that Wedington Place Senior Apartments is currently on their list of apartment complexes.
We will continue to investigate this story and bring you any updates as soon as they become available.
