Several Car Burglaries in Elkins; Six Guns Stolen

News

Multiple car burglaries and gun thefts happened in Elkins early Friday, March 22, according to Elkins Police Chief Bryan Watts.

Watts believes the thefts happened between 12:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., and so far six guns were taken from vehicles.

“We believe the individual(s) were walking through neighborhoods checking on car door handles, and if the doors were unlocked….,” said Watts.

Currently, police are checking home surveillance videos and taking statements from victims.

“People are still waking up this morning and coming in to report car burglaries,” said Watts.

The Elkins PD reminds residents to check their vehicles and call police at 479-643-2600 if you find anything missing.

“As always, keep your homes and vehicles locked and secured at all times,” according to their Facebook page.

The investigation is ongoing, according to police.

Watts said, “a couple of years ago a similar crime happened and that person is in prison today.”
