Signing up for Health Insurance After Deadline

News

A local insurance agent says it’s not too late to sign up for health care coverage through the Affordable Care Act in the Natural State even though the deadline has passed.

4.1 million people continue to be insured through the ACA for 2019.

Unfortunately, the open enrollment period for the ACA ended last night just before midnight.  If you’re just seeing this and you missed the deadline, you’re not completely out of luck.

You can still apply for ACA coverage if you fall under an exemption. A person must qualify for a special enrollment period due to a life event like losing other coverage, moving, getting married, having a baby, or adopting a child.

You also can apply any time if you qualify for Medicaid or the Children’s Health Insurance Program
C K Harp & Associates President Cammie Scott says people shouldn’t panic but rather reach out for the best options available.

“There are various options that are available to you. You can look online or what a lot of people as I encourage them to do is to seek out the help of a qualified agent. Someone that can help to walk them through that process and explain the options to them,” Scott said.

If you applied, but your coverage was denied, you can appeal that decision by going to HealthCare.gov
