One of the biggest challenges health care providers face is getting patients to take their medication correctly. Now, new smart pill bottles could change that.

They have sensors that can tell when the bottle opens and closes and can measure what’s inside. If a dose is missed, the bottles light up and chime to remind patients to take their pills. It can also send phone calls, texts or even contact a doctor if needed.

The company Adhere Tech partners with pharmacies and hospitals to provide the smart bottles to patients for free. Currently, there are thousands of the bottles on the market in four continents, streaming patient data back to providers in real time. Adhere Tech is continuing its expansion in the u-s and internationally and the startup says it’s already profitable.
