Homeowners in Northwest Arkansas can now save money off their monthly utility bills.
“Mr. Sun is out there his smiley face everyday, why not use his power,” said Mick Smith, a Rogers Homeowner who will soon have the solar panels installed.
“What we are doing is hooking solar up on homes and selling the power back to the grid as a way to eliminate or reduce the electric bill,” said Caleb Gorden, the President of Shine Solar.
After moving to Arizona back in 2014 to learn about the thriving solar panel industry there, he moved back to the area with the goal of bringing the alternative energy option to Northwest Arkansas.
Gorden said the reason for the lack of solar panel options in the area, is because utilities are cheaper here than many other places.
“There’s not as much solar in Arkansas just because the cost of power is cheaper here, but we’re just finally at a point with the ability to pay for the solar over time versus writing a big check all at once,” said Gorden.
Gorden said by installing solar panels on your house homeowners can save up to 15 to 30 percent off of their current electric bill.
You could also qualify for a 30 percent federal tax credit by installing solar panels, something Smith says makes it all worth it.
“My power bill is not going to increase every year because every year I’ve lived in my home its increased another 10 percent and i just couldn’t stand that, and i love the natural resource of the sun,” said Smith.
So far solar shine has installed solar panels on about 10 homes and has 6 to 8 more lined up in the immediate future.
