BENTON COUNTY, Ark. (KNWA) — The Spanker Creek Bridge in Benton County is now closed while a replacement is constructed.
The bridge is located on Spanker Creek Road, just north of West McNelly Road in Bella Vista.
Officials said the bridge is currently too short and the deck is too low, which leads to washout and flooding any time there’s heavy rain.
The county will replace the bridge with a 102 foot long structure, which will increase the current length by about 60 feet and will cost more than $1.2 million.
Benton County Judge Barry Moehring said construction is expected to be completed in early May 2019.
Drivers who travel over Spanker Creek Bridge should begin taking detour routes now.
