Special Meeting Held to Discuss Future of Animal Shelters

A special meeting was called Friday to discuss the future of animals sheltered in and around Bentonville.

In the past, a shelter in Rogers provided the needed resources.

But a temporary, three year contract with Centerton is now in place as the Bentonville City Council weighs the costs and benefits of getting it’s own animal shelter.

“There seems to be a lot of want for that through the citizenry. Whether we can or not is for a work group or a task force to ferret out those answers,” City Councilman William Burckart said.

The city council hopes to open a dialogue with concerned groups, volunteers, and shelters to brainstorm solutions for once the three year contract expires.
