SPRINGDALE, Ark. (KNWA) — Springdale Mayor Doug Sprouse presented his 2019 budget to the City Council Friday, including more than $1 million in salary increases for city employees.
Sprouse said he wants pay to be comparable to other cities in Northwest Arkansas.
Sprouse said in such a fast growing region, the city can’t afford to fall behind on paying those who work in the public sector.
“We’re just trying to get everybody,” Sprouse said. “Wer’re trying to do this citywide to make sure all our employees are compensated in such a manner that we have a better opportunity to keep’em.”
The City Council has until February to approve a spending budget.
Sprouse also threw out ideas for how to pay for the increase, including more money going to the Springdale General Operating Fund.
