ST. FRANCIS COUNTY, Ark. — One person was injured as strong storms hammered St. Francis County in eastern Arkansas late Saturday night.
The St. Francis County Sheriff’s Office reported damage stretching from Colt to Caldwell to Forrest City.
Trees and electrical lines were downed across the area. As a result of that, Entergy Arkansas reported about 6,000 customers in the county without power.
Deputies reported one person injured but didn’t elaborate on how that person was hurt. As of midnight, the sheriff’s office was going street-to-street looking for others who might be in need of assistance.
In the early morning hours Sunday, St. Francis County Judge Gary Hughes issued a verbal Declaration of Emergency.
The Forrest City Civic Center was opened as a shelter for anyone affected by damage or in need of medical assistance.
As of Sunday morning, county officials were continuing to clear roads blocked by debris.
