Students Who Walk out Will Receive Detention in Bentonville

News

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (KNWA) — Bentonville students who walk out of class to protest gun violence will be counted absent and given detention.

The Bentonville School Board decided on the punishment Monday night.

Many students are planning to walk out of class Wednesday in support of gun control legislation following the February 14 school shooting Parkland, Fla., that resulted in 17 deaths.

The school board voted that starting in fall students in grades 9-12 must wear student badges and that the badges must be visible.

The board also voted to hire another resource officer for Bentonville schools.
