Suspect Surrenders to Police After a Day on the Run

Van Buren Suspect

A man is in custody after fleeing from authorities during a traffic stop Wednesday near Mulberry.

Arkansas State Police (ASP) and Crawford County Sheriff Deputies assisted each other in capturing James Johnson.

Johnson was wanted out of Mulberry after he fled from a traffic stop on foot according to police. The incident took place in the area of Old Wire Road in Mulberry right off of Exit 24 on I-40.

Bill Sadler, ASP spokesperson, said Johnson was peacefully taken into custody at a home in Van Buren.

Johnson surrendered himself to police at a home in 4000 block of Hilltop Way in Van Buren according to Sadler.

Johnson is a wanted parolee who absconded. (A fugitive who runs away and hides to avoid arrest or prosecution.)

Arkansas State Police and Crawford County Sheriff’s Office assisted on the call.

Johnson was taken to the Crawford County Jail and is awaiting a bond hearing.
