Technology Takeover Happening at Bentonville Schools

BENTONVILLE, AR–Bentonville Public Schools is taking learning to a new level. Thursday was a night to showcase new technology for some schools in the district.

“There’s no boundaries there’s no limits,” said Julie Turner, 6th Grade Teacher Fulbright Jr. High.

Bentonville Public School students & teachers are using technology to enhance everyday education.

Turner said, “they got to decide what they wanted to do it on and I think that’s so huge for them to have that control with their learning.”

More than 20 classrooms were granted iPads and laptops the past year and Thursday night was about students showing how it’s raising the standard in the classroom.

“I hope that it continues, cause it is definitely in the best interest of the kids,” said Diane Snieski, 2nd Grade Teacher Cooper Elementary.

Thanks to 25, 21st Century grants, students in the Bentonville Public School District are able to become everything from  engineers to critical thinks, and even filmmakers. Teachers say it’s more than about using technology in the classroom, but also outside in the community as well.

“They did a collaborative project with Mercy Garden, with Mercy, to create this garden,” said Snieski. “This type of learning, I just stand back and they just learn what they’re interested in and they’re interested in a lot. It actually makes teaching pretty easy.”

For teachers like Julie Turner, the technology was a way to incorporate life-lessons into lesson plans.

“It’s about voice and choice and the collaboration and teaching them real life skills,” Turner said.

And now teachers say even they are learning a thing or two from students.

“The kids know a lot about technology than I probably do,” Snieski said.
