One teen looking for a prom date goes viral and it’s all thanks to his employer. A high school student who works at a Chick-fil-A said he didn’t know how to find a prom date, so his co-workers put his name and request on the sign outside. The teen says he was stressing about his senior prom and let his coworker know. The next thing he knew, he saw a message on the marquee outside the restaurant that said: “Tanner needs a prom date. Details inside.” They didn’t stop there, his co-workers even printed off pictures and showed them to inquiring customers. The teen said he never thought a sign outside of Chick-fil-A would land him a date or make him famous.
There’s no better way to increase demand than threatening to cut off supply. Necco Wafers the chalky, curiously flavored candies are suddenly red hot. This as their maker teeters on the edge of a shutdown. The news has seemingly spurred a rush on its namesake candy. One customer offered to trade their car for all of the Necco Wafers available on the company’s website. And, it’s not just candy stores, either. Necco is red hot on eBay, with people paying more than the retail price for Necco Wafers and other candies. The company posted a message on their Facebook page saying in part:
“We are unsure of our future but hopeful for a buyer to keep this sweet and nostalgic brand alive for many more decades.”
