BENTONVILLE, Ark. (KNWA) — Bentonville is getting nearly 3,000 new trees of 25 different species in an effort to diversify the area’s tree canopy.
This is possible by grants adding up to $2 million from the Walton Family Foundation.
By planting the trees, the city of Bentonville hopes to create cleaner air, increase shade, reduce runoff and improve wildlife conditions.
Bentonville isn’t the only city with a tree initiative. Fayetteville plans to celebrate Arbor Day by handing free trees and shrubs to residents
The giveaway will begin next Saturday, Oct. 13 on the corner of the Fayetteville Square at Arvest Bank Plaza.
Fifteen different species of trees will be handed out. All you need to grab one of your own is proof of Fayetteville residency.
