Thursday is #RedNoseDay

NORTHWEST ARKANSAS — Red Nose Day is a holiday that started in the UK 30 years ago and this year, it’s making its debut in the U.S.

The holiday was started by the nonprofit organization Comic Relief to raise money for kids living in poverty. Here in Northwest Arkanansas, 12 nonprofits will receive grants from the organization. including United Way.

The group’s Northwest Arkansas chapter says one in four local kids live in poverty and it affects their lives in many ways.

“Where’s my next meal coming from, where am I going to sleep tonight, am I gonna get to go to school because my mom doesn’t have transportation or my dad’s out of a job,” said Alexa McGriff, marketing director for United Way NWA.

Red Nose Day is pretty simple: just stop by Walgreens and purchase a red nose. Half of the proceeds will stay right here in America, while the other half will go to the poorest countries in the world.
