HIGHFILL, Ark. (KFTA) — Federal workers have gone for two pay periods without paychecks.
Local TSA workers can now expect to see a paycheck soon.
Over 60 TSA employees at Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport have gone without pay for the past month.
XNA Airport Director Kelly Johnson says the community rallied around these workers by dropping off food, hosting gift card drives, even restaurants offering what they can. Now she says TSA workers can expect to get paid likely by next week.
“I have to give these guys a lot of kudos and thanks and gratitude, because they have come to work everyday, we haven’t seen the call-ins for sick. We’ve haven’t seen any of the other things that have gone on in some of the other communties, so we’re really blessed to have a team of professionals in Northwest Arkansas,” Johnson said.
Last week, union members at both XNA and Fort Smith Regional Airport called for the government shutdown to end, citing public safety and financial stress it has caused for families.
During the shutdown, the Northwest Arkansas Food Bank also joined forces with XNA to provide food for workers.
