Community members were invited to “A Drag Queen Story Time” Featuring Miss Gay Arkansas 2018, but one Arkansas senator publicly spoke out against the event.
With finals next week students at the University of Arkansas Fort Smith were invited to relax and de-stress with a story time by drag queen Chloe Jacobs.
However, Arkansas state Senator Jason Rapert was vocal about his disapproval of the event. Tuesday he posted on his official Facebook page. Saying in part “I apologize to the citizens of Arkansas for the ridiculous waste of taxpayer funds by UAFS for promoting this rubbish…I certainly do not support it.
But the university said the event was put on by a registered student organization, and no tax payer dollars were used.
We spoke with an audience member at story time today who said it showed progress in the natural state.
“It’s very important for us to show little kids that this is ok, this isn’t wrong, this isn’t like dirty or anything and I wish there would have been something to show me that when I was younger,” said UAFS student Alyssa Hopper.
Chloe Jacobs who is a Little Rock hair dresser by day, said she is shocked the event garnered so much negative attention.
