A University of Arkansas football player was arrested for multiple charges yesterday afternoon.
According to a preliminary report, Demetrius Walker, 21, was arrested for delivery of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance with purpose to deliver both marijuana and xanax, simultaneous possession of drugs and firearms and possession of drug paraphernalia.
In the past four months, detectives from the 4th Judicial District Drug Task Force purchased marijuana during a controlled buy undercover operation with the assistance of a confidential informant.
On December 12, authorities executed a search warrant at Walker’s residence in Fayetteville.
Police obtained 95.8 grams of marijuana, 40 xanax pills, multiple individual and sandwich baggies, a digital scale and an AR-15 with one loaded magazine.
According to the University of Arkansas football page, Walker was a sophomore linebacker.
The following is a statement from the University of Arkansas Department of Intercollegiate Athletics:
“We are aware of charges involving Demetrius Walker, a student-athlete on our football team. The student-athlete has been suspended from our football program indefinitely, and we will continue to monitor the situation and cooperate fully with any related legal and campus processes. Our continued expectation is that our student-athletes conduct themselves and represent the University of Arkansas in an appropriate manner at all times.”
