One University of Arkansas professor is hoping to learn from the recent earthquake that hit central Mexico.
Clint Wood was chosen by the National Science Foundation to travel to the epicenter of the recent quake to study the affected buildings in the area.
The earthquake killed and injured hundreds of people.
But the research Wood will be involved in could prevent future loss of life.
“We can learn from those failures, and try to put that into knowledge that we can better design buildings in the future to resist these types of earthquakes,” Wood said.
This isn’t Wood’s first trip, he has studied the effects of natural disasters on engineering in several other countries.
