University of Arkansas SEFOR Nuclear Site Cleanup On Schedule and On Budget

Representatives from the University of Arkansas report the cleanup at the SEFOR nuclear reactor site is on schedule and on budget.

Associate Vice Chancellor for University Facilities Mike Johnson spoke at a public meeting Thursday at the Strickler Volunteer Fire Department to provide a quarterly update on the project. Johnson said the work effort is coming off of an active December, which saw the reactor vessel itself getting removed from the site to be disposed of in Nevada.

“We’re getting close, here in the next month or two, to essentially having the site pretty well cleaned up as far as radioactive materials,” Johnson explained.

Johnson says the university will continue to take samples in the area to monitor things. The ongoing work is on track to be completed no later than May of this year.
