KNWA/Posy Tower Update (Friday, 11 p.m.): KNWA engineers said the new antenna has been successfully installed at the tower site and Channel 51 should be working again.

KNWA/Posy Tower Update:  Wednesday night, May 8, engineers confirmed that the issue with the tower site was the new antenna received from Dielectric. The company is rushing an antenna to us from Maine and should arrive by Friday, May 10. Today, Thursday, crews are working to remove the defective antenna off the tower to prepare for the delivery of the new one.

If all goes well, the plan is to install the replacement Friday night and start tuning it on Saturday, May 11.

For some of the viewers who have lost signal since the frequency change here is an update for you:

We are working on doing structural improvements to the tower to support the new main antenna. Currently, we are running on an AUX (auxiliary)  antenna which doesn’t have the same height or output as the original. We had hoped to have the new antenna in place already, but unforeseen events have prevented that. Due to the FCC mandated repack we had to go ahead with the frequency change and run on the auxiliary antenna. We are trying hard to bring the signal back to you as soon as possible but at the mercy of our tower climbers and custom parts.

This project should finish by the end of June. We know this news isn’t ideal and would recommend upgrading your antenna to an outdoor or attic one until then.

KNWA/FOX 24 will post an update once all the work is completed.

ORIGINAL POST

If you watch KNWA through an antenna on Channel 51, you may experience a problem with programming not coming through.

At around 5 p.m. Monday, we noticed our tower site in Garfield was starting to have some issues.

When our Chief Engineer got to the site, it was apparent that the transmitter was operating well, but the antenna was not, and as a result, Channel 51 programming is not coming through to some of our viewers.

A tower crew will come out Tuesday night to climb the tower and have a look.

At this point, it is only speculation as to what the issue could be, and therefore, we are unable to provide a timeline as to when the problem will be fixed.

We will update this post when we have more information, likely on Wednesday.

Thank you for watching. We are doing our best to get Channel 51 fully back on air as soon as possible.
