A new recycling bill fails to pass the House Committee on Thursday, March 28.
House Bill 1771 filed by Representative Vivian Flowers (D-Pine Bluff) would have set up container deposit centers across the state.
If passed, bottle prices would have increased by six-cents but you would get five-cents of it back when you took the bottles to one of the centers.
If you didn’t redeem your bottles, the money would go to Medicaid and grants for the highway and city water departments.
Representative Flowers may try to bring it back for another vote the first week of April.
Ten states have bottle bills, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures.
