The body found in a creek off Town Branch Trail in Fayetteville was identified as 43-year-old Wesley Hunt.
Hunt was from Fayetteville, according to Fayetteville police.
Fayetteville Police have confirmed a body was found in a creek off Town Branch Trail in Fayetteville.
“It was obvious that this was beyond help,” said Sgt. Craig Stout with Fayetteville Police. “This is a heavily used trail, so we do have quite a few people here.”
Police said a woman was using the trail when she discovered the body under a bridge, and called 911.
“Officers responded on the scene, we did find a male subject face down in the water,” said Stout.
Stout said this isn’t the first time police have been called out around this part of town for a dead body.
“This is an area that does have a fairly large homeless population down here staying in some of the wooded areas,” said Stout. ‘We’ve had suicides, unattended deaths, things of that nature.”
In this case, Stout did say it appears this was either a medical or accidental drowning.
“There were no obvious signs of trauma on the body, however until the body is sent to the crime lab for an autopsy we won’t know for sure,” said Stout.
