UPDATE: Female U of A Student Dies From Injuries Suffered When Hit by Car in Crosswalk


UPDATE (2-4, 6:30 p.m.) The 18-year-old female University of Arkansas student who was hit by a car when crossing a crosswalk has died.

Washington Regional issued a news release stating the following:

The family of the 18-year-old University of Arkansas student who was injured in an accident on campus on Saturday, February 2 has asked Washington Regional to inform the media that she has died from her injuries. The family will issue no other comments at this time and asks that the public respect their privacy.

A 17-year-old female was cited for failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk and use of a handheld device while driving.

UPDATE: The cousin of the victim released a statement to Fox 24 News and said, “She is still not awake. This is the worst thing our family has ever gone through. We are praying for a miracle.

The driver in the accident has been identified as a 17-year-old female.

A female University of Arkansas student was hit by a car while crossing a crosswalk, according to Captain Gary Crain with the University of Arkansas Police. 

The driver was given two citations: failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk and use of a handheld device while driving, according to Crain.

The victim was reported to be in serious condition and was transported to Washington Regional.

The accident took place on February, 2, around 4 p.m. at Garland Avenue between the Garland Parking Garage and a set of dorms, Crain said.
