Fort Smith police are investigating whether a man who was found dead in a Fort Smith apartment was an armed intruder.
Fort Smith police confirmed that the death was the result of a stabbing.
Aric Mitchell with the Fort Smith Police Department provided a police report that provides some details on the fatal stabbing at Timberline Apartments in the 5900 block of Kinkead Avenue in Fort Smith. Police were called to the scene at around 4 a.m. Tuesday.
Police arrived at the apartment complex and spoke with a man named Miller Luke who was “extremely upset” and said “I’m sorry” several times. Officers then found a man dead in the kitchen of an apartment.
An officer asked Luke if anyone else was in the apartment where the deceased man was found; Luke said there was not and that his roommate had went to get help.
Police interviewed Luke. Luke said that he was sitting in his living room when a man he did not know entered the apartment through the front door, carrying a gun. Luke then said, “I think it was a gun. It looked like a gun,” according to the police report.
Luke told police that the intruder attacked him.
First responders arrived and began treating injuries on Luke’s arm as he gave police his account of what happened. EMS then arrived and took Luke to a hospital.
Officers then spoke to the man’s roommate, Isiah Graham, who said that Luke came into his room and woke him up. Graham also said he had not heard any commotion prior to being woken up.
The Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division is taking over the investigation.
