UPDATE: I-49 Lanes Reopen After Rig Fire & Chemical Spill


UPDATE (5 p.m.): Interstate 49 North lanes are open after a tractor trailer overturned, caught fire and spilled hazardous chemicals on Wednesday afternoon west of Winslow, according to the Arkansas Department of Transportation.

A lane will likely be closed Wednesday evening as crews offload and remove the damaged tractor trailer, ArDOT said.

UPDATE: Interstate 49 North near Winslow is now being detoured to Chester at Exit 36 after a tractor trailer overturned, caught fire and began emitting hazardous chemicals, according to the Arkansas Department of Transportation. 

Fire Crews have the fire out and are working on containing chemicals that have leaked from the tractor trailer, according to the Fayetteville Fire Department.

There is no estimate on when traffic flow will resume, ArDOT said.

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Ark. (KNWA) — A stretch of Northwest Arkansas interstate is closed after a tractor trailer overturned and started emitting hazardous chemicals.

The Arkansas Department of Transportation said that the tractor trailer overturned Wednesday afternoon on Interstate 49 North just west of Winslow, Mile Marker 43 near Exit 45).

“Keep clear of the area,” ArDOT said.
