UPDATE: Mistrial Declared in Chumley Murder Case

UPDATE:

Court Officials say a mistrial was declared in the Chumley murder case on Thursday morning.

Court Officials say the co-defendant Christopher Lee Treat said Chumley was a convicted felon on the stand, which was not allowed.

The new trial date has yet to be determined.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (KNWA) — A jury has been seated and open arguments started in the trial of a man charged with accomplice to capital murder.

Mark Chumley, 48, is accused of helping hold a woman captive in her house and beating her for hours.

The state is seeking the death penalty.

The victim’s husband already pleaded guilty to the same charge and was sentenced to 37 years in prison.

The three other defendants are being held in the Washington County Detention Center.
